Scent Sundays: Thierry Mugler Angel

Sunday, December 06, 2015

Here's a scent I was really surprised by! I'd heard a lot about Thierry Mugler's Angel ($31-$153 CAD), and that it was really sweet. I dislike sickly sweet scents, so I was set to hate this one and wished I'd had a sample of Alien instead. 'lo and behold, Angel did not turn out the way I expected. Keep reading to see what I thought!

Angel, the first perfume by Thierry Mugler, evokes the emotion of tender childhood memories together with a sense of dreamlike infinity.Angel, which launched a new fragrance category called the "oriental gourmands," seduces us with angelic flavors found deep within the heart of our memories, as well as sensual and passionate notes. Notes:  Bergamot, Hedione, Helional, Honey, Dewberry, Red Berries, Vanilla, Caramel, Patchouli, Chocolate, Coumarin. --Sephora
Yeah, so I wasn't looking forward to those sweet notes. Don't get me wrong -- I like a good gourmand from time to time, but after trying Dolce and Gabbana's The One, I figured Angel would be just as unappealing to me.

Wrong.

Angel pulls way more oriental/spicy on my skin. It opens very heavy on the patchouli, balanced by bergamot. It gets slightly sweeter with the red berries, caramel, and a hint of chocolate. The heart notes and drydown but stay in the zone of spice but with sweeter notes poking out a bit more. No vanilla overload!

From my quick research, Angel seems to be a scent that can pull really sweet on some, but spicier on others (like me). I'd definitely try to get a sample of it to test out. I'm really pleased it worked for me, and now I want to try Alien even more!

Have you tried Angel? Was it more sweet or sensual on you?
