Scent Sundays: Tocca Cleopatra

Sunday, November 08, 2015

I own a lot of perfume, most of it indie, and you'll be seeing a lot of those in upcoming Scent Sundays posts. I'm admittedly a snob when it comes to fragrance, and prefer indie/handmade to more commercial offerings. As a blogger, I don't want to limit my exposure, but I also don't want to spend $50+ on a single designer perfume. How to overcome this? Samples! A few months ago, I placed a birthday order at Sephora, and they were offering a sample bag of perfumes with purchase. I happily snatched it up, and finally, I will be sharing my thoughts on each in the following weeks. Welcome to to the first round of Scent Sundays!

For the first installment of Scent Sundays, and my first choice from the sample bag from Sephora (the next ones being chosen at random) is a perfume I fell in love with a few years ago, Tocca's Cleopatra ($82 CAD for 1.7 oz full-size; smaller versions available). I first obtained a sample of this fragrance from a different site, and it was the main reason of my choosing the sample bag as my beauty bonus. I've loved Egyptian history since I was little, so the name is right up my alley, and the scent is beautiful.

Inspired by the Mediterranean seductress, Cleopatra captivates the senses. It is infused with the crisp, fresh scent of juicy grapefruit and soothing cucumber used in the legendary queen’s beauty rituals.

On my skin, Cleopatra opens with a burst of crisp and fresh greens, and moves to peach and florals. The heart notes are musky, spicy, with white florals. I love this stage of the fragrance the most, though it's really lovely all the way through.  The dry down a is vanilla musk. The perfume lasts about 6-8 hours on my skin.

Thankfully, Tocca has sets of minis for reasonable prices, so I may pick one up someday. I definitely want to try more from the brand.

Tune in next week for the second installment of Scent Sundays!
