Hello, hello! Yesterday, Shelly of Tinykittens shared some exciting news pertaining to Cassidy, the Bipawd Miracle Kitten (see my first post about him here), and I thought I should share!
Cassidy's vet, Dr. Ferguson of Mountain View Veterinary Hospital, has been able to track down and get in contact with a veterinary specialist in North Carolina, Dr. Denis Marcellin-Little. The idea right now is to see if Cassidy will be a candidate for prosthetic implants on his two back stumps. Currently his stumped knees are hyperextended, and while he can still scoot around on his front legs, the hyperextension will end up posing problems in the future, such as chronic pain. Obviously, that's no good! Implants will give Cassidy full range of motion, but the potential surgery will be when he has finished growing, and after extensive physiotherapy to correct the hyperextension. Oh, and the surgery will cost a lot. Think thousands of dollars.

Shelly has been extremely hesitant in asking for our help, but I think Cassidy is worth it. Not only will this greatly improve his quality of life, this will all be cutting-edge and could help other animals and even humans in the future. Cassidy's candidacy for implants is still prospective, and there will be many consultations done to see if he can have the surgery. If more money is raised than is needed for his treatment, it will go to other needy cats.
The best news? Aside from the hyperextended knees, Cassidy is thriving and healthy. It's remarkable to see how far he's come in such a short amount of time! If you have some funds you can spare, please consider donating to Cassidy. Spreading the word by sharing his story and following Tinykittens on Facebook is also very helpful!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Shelly and Cassidy have touched my heart and I am so happy he is thriving and there is hope for his mobility. I leave you with this video of his progress Shelly made... have the tissues handy! ♥
