Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant Review, Photos

Have you ever tried a product and became shocked that you hadn't been using it all along? I had heard about chemical exfoliation (which uses small percentages of acids like salicylic or glycolic acid to exfoliate, as opposed to physical exfoliants which use small particles to manually remove dead skin cells on the surface. More info here)  but I'd never really given it a chance, because I felt my physical exfoliants were enough. And they were.. for a while. A few months ago, I started to get a few cystic zits here and there. I don't exactly know what caused them (I'm guessing all the different skincare I'd been testing), but they were very painful and incredibly annoying to deal with. I'd heard Paula's Choice 2% BHA exfoliants helped prevent them, and with friends singing their praise, I decided to finally jump in and try one.

I chose the 2% BHA Liquid because there is a $9 USD 1 oz trial size size you can buy, vs. the $28 4 oz full-size. I figured it was the best way to try it out, and I had also found a free shipping code which helped. (Psst, Paula's Choice often has coupons floating around, so be sure to check their site or RetailMeNot before ordering!) It took a week or so to arrive, and I was pretty eager to dig in.

I used the exfoliant nightly after cleansing and before moisturizing. The BHA Liquid can be used twice daily (it's recommended you use a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 25 or higher when using it in daytime -- though you really should be doing that anyway ;)), though I chose to only use it once a day to avoid potentially irritating my skin (though it does contain green tea extract to prevent irritation), and also because I wanted my sample to last as long as possible. The liquid quickly absorbs into skin and didn't leave my face feeling sticky. And... holy crap. It's very rare that for me to find a skincare product that shows results after the first use, but this one did. I woke up to my skin feeling smooth and soft and any red bumps I had were lighter. With a few more uses, my skin was almost entirely cleared up. And I didn't get any more pimples or bumps, and definitely no cystic zits (yay!) the entire time I used this exfoliant. I even skipped using night cream some days because this sufficiently hydrated and softened my skin (though this was also in the summer; I'm not so sure it would be enough in the dry winter).

I just can't get over how amazing Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid is. My sample is done and I still need to rebuy it in full size, but due to hectic real life (bills, bills, bills), I haven't yet -- and my skin is really missing it. I also can't believe it's only $28 USD for 4 oz, considering there are products from other brands twice, three times that price that don't perform nearly as well. I feel like I need to try so much more from Paula's Choice now! I've heard the praises; I've even bought my parents some PC products, and now it's time for my skin to reap their benefits. Paula, I believe this the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Another few awesome details about Paula's Choice: all their products are free of added fragrance and other irritants, made in the USA without animal testing, and are packaged in ways that keep all ingredients stable. Also, for us Canadians, all required taxes and duties are calculated at checkout so you don't have to pay them later. They also have a referral program where you will receive $10 off your order if you purchae using a referral link, and the referrer will also receive $10 towards their next order when your order ships. If you plan to buy anything after reading this post and want to help a sister out (plus get $10 off!), I'd love if you could use my referral. :)  Also, you can choose three free foilie samples on every order!

I really recommend the 2% BHA Liquid to anyone who ever experiences pimples or bumps. So, basically everyone. It's been a revolution in my skincare regime and is my new Holy Grail exfoliant!
