schick hydro silk trimstyle razor, skintimate skintherapy moisturizing shave gel

Our long, long winter is finally at its end, and summer is nearly upon us. Now for our annual shearing! Schick is here for our shaving and trimming needs, and after my review I will show you how you can win one of 50 (!) Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle* razors to rate and review!

schick hydro silk trimstyle razor

I've been using Schick's Hydro Silk razor for a while, and the new Hydro Silk TrimStyle ($13.99 CAD) feature the same 5-bladed razor cartridge, but along with a 5-bladed electric trimmer on the other end. The trimmer has a removable, adjustable comb with four settings so you can achieve as close a trim as you prefer. Then, if you wish, you can shave away the remaining hair with the razor side. This is really handy for times when we're exceptionally, ahem, hairy down there or don't want to go completely bare.

While the TrimStyle is larger than the usual Hydro Silk, I didn't find it cumbersome to hold or use, and the blue rubber grip handle definitely helps. The trimmer is easier to maneuver; simply hold down the button and release to turn it on (then press again when to turn it off) and go. The package includes a battery as well. The handle comes apart in the middle and the battery is put in between both ends. There's only one razor cartridge included, which is kind of a bummer, but it uses the usual Hydro Silk cartridges which is convenient if you already own and love them!

What I really like about the razor head is that it has skin guards to reduce irritation a water-activated moisturizing serum, which Schick says provides two hours of moisture after using. Confession: I don't always use shaving cream... and I find with the Hydro Silk razors, I don't really need it. My legs are still smooth and soft the day after, at least now in warmer weather. Which brings me to...

skintimate skintherapy moisturizing shave gel

I tested the Skintimate SkinTherapy Moisturizing Shave Gel* (around $3.50 CAD) on one leg and shaved with just water on the other. I found using the shave gel made that leg a slight bit softer and allowed the razor to glide more smoothly. I don't think this is a necessary addition, at least not with Hydro Silk razors, but if you normally use shave gel/cream, this is a good one to try. It has a nice, soft floral scent and skin-softening ingredients like vitamin E, sunflower seed oil, argan oil, and shea butter. Actually pretty impressive for a mass market shave gel!
