Odacité Discovery Kit - Combination Review, Photos

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Ohhhhhhhh, Odacité, you are so good. Your full sizes are spendy, but they are potent and this Discovery Kit for Combination Skin* ($33 CAD) is a great way to try them. Keep reading to find out more!

The Discovery Kit for Combination Skin includes the Gentle Rejuvenation Cleanser (0.5 oz), Divine Rose Toner Mist (0.5 oz), Beautiful Day Moisturizer (0.14 oz), Night Time Antioxidant Repair Serum (0.14 oz), Jojoba Beads Exfoliant (0.5 oz), Deep Hydration Masque (0.5 oz), Ultra-Effective Eye Cream (0.1 oz), two sponges, a spatula, and a booklet with instructions and ingredients. Everything is packaged in a cute white organza bag with the Odacité logo on the ribbons. The kit is meant to last 10 days, but I've been able to use it longer than that.

There are also kits for mature/dry skin and oily/acne skin, both also $33 CAD.

Odacité's products (aside from the serum concentrates) are formulated with a base of aloe vera juice and contain their Freshiency Date guarantee (you can learn more about Odacité on my Po + R Serum Concentrate review.) All ingredients are promised to be active without the need of preservatives or harsh chemicals.

The Rejuvenating Cleanser (0.5 oz) has a milky consistency and doesn't foam. It (like all of the products in this kit) has a light, herbal-y smell that I find pleasant and not overwhelming. It's meant to be used with the included sponges, and the full-size version comes with four of them. There's tons of good stuff in the formula -- sunflower seed oil, floral water, wheat germ oil, etc. It leaves my skin cleansed and feeling soothed, with no film or stickiness left behind. Full-size retails for $40 for 4 oz.

The Jojoba Beads Exfoliant (0.5 oz) is one of the best exfoliators I've used! The jojoba wax beads are plentiful and really slough off dead skin cells, without being scratchy or uncomfortable. The second ingredient (after aloe vera) is organic coconut oil, which is great at hydrating skin. This is definitely one of my favourites from the kit! Full-size retails for $50 for 1.7 oz.

The Divine Rose & Neroli Balancing Toner Mist (0.5 oz) is free of harsh alcohols that are found in a lot of toners. I never really know if I need toner, but I like using them after cleansing or when I'm feeling too lazy to actually cleanse (no, not when I'm wearing makeup!) This toner helps remove any leftover makeup or gunk, and it leaves my skin clean and hydrated. It's supposed to reduce the appearance of pores, but I don't really notice that if I'm using it alone -- but I do usually have reduced pores after using a cleanser, anyway. This toner has a lovely rose scent, which again is soft and not overwhelming. Full-size retails for $50 for 4 oz.

The Deep Hydration Masque (0.5 oz) was such a lifesaver this winter! I had an annoying dry patch near my nose that would just not go away until I used this in conjunction with the Po + R Serum and the other products in the Discovery Kit. The masque has a medium consistency, and can be used three ways: leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse off and tone; adding a small amount to your day moisturizer; or leaving it on overnight as a night cream. I've used the third method the most, but it is also super-effective the other two ways. The masque also contains organic coconut oil as the second ingredient! No wonder it works so well! Full-size is $55 for 1.7 oz.

Each of these four in the Discovery Kit is packaged in bottles with small openings, and I had no trouble getting any product out. The packaging varies for the full-sizes.

I really enjoyed these facial sponges which were included for use with the cleanser. They double in size when wet, easily rinse clean and are supposed to help with facial circulation.

The Beautiful Day Moisturizer (0.14 oz) is also full of coconut oil! The sample is in jar packaging, which isn't the best packaging, but luckily the full-size version is in a bottle (ditto the Night Time Repair Serum and Ultra Effective Eye Cream). The moisturizer has a thinner, but not runny, consistency, and soaks into skin quickly. It works well at hydrating skin and making it appear luminous, though I wish it had SPF. It's supposed to drastically improve all signs of aging, which I suppose I'd need a larger size to see, but the ingredients are definitely beneficial to skin. Full-size is $79 for 2 oz.

The Night Time Repair Serum (0.14 oz) is a crème-serum, meaning it is concentrated like a serum but hydrating like a cream. Again, there are many potent ingredients in the formula, such as jojoba oil, shea butter, white tea, rooibos tea, and hyaluronic acid, among others! I really like this night cream, as it is hydrating and while I haven't had a large enough sample to gauge its wrinkle-fighting efficacy, I'm confident my skin has received some benefit from the ingredients. Double up on potency by mixing one of the Pure Elements serums with it! Full-size is a whopping $130 for 2 oz, but if you can afford it, I think this is a great night cream to splurge on.

The Ultra Effective Eye Cream (0.1 oz) is also chock-full of potent antioxidants to smooth, hydrate, and firm the undereye area. I'm not entirely convinced I need eye cream yet, as my underyes never seem drier or puffier than the rest of my face. For what it's worth, I think this another great offering from Odacité due to the number of effective ingredients, and fingers crossed it will prevent the dreaded crows' feet from forming! (I can already see them gaining leverage..) Full-size is another spendy $109 for 0.5 oz.

I did the math and this kit has a value of around $78.57 CAD! It's a really great way to try out quality products and see what works before shelling out the $$ for full-sizes. I'm really coveting the Jojoba Beads Exfoliant, Deep Hydration Masque, and Night Time Repair Serum. These products maybe be more than I typically spend on skincare, but the ingredients are top-notch and I know will benefit my skin over time, not to mention the results I can see with just a few uses.
