Guest Post | Trysh's Top 5 Red Lipsticks

Sunday, February 15, 2015

Hey everyone! This is Trysh from PrairieBeautyLove and I've got the pleasure of writing a guest post for Stephanie! This month's Canadian Beauty Bloggers guest post theme is Red, White, and Pink... but I stopped reading at red because at this time of year I'm all about a red lip and I figured this was a great time to talk about my all time favorite red lip picks!

1. Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Natural in N45

This is a really sheer, glossy lip product that gives less of that punch-in-the-face red and more of a cherry popsicle kind of look to the lips. I have a couple of other lipsticks that are similar to this, but this is by far my favorite because it's really smooth, moisturizing and comfortable on the lips and it doesn't disappear in five minutes. Don't get me wrong, no one is going to call this long wearing, but I find it holds colour on my lips longer than a lot of other sheer lipstick formulas. This is really a red lip that you don't have to think too much about, you can just throw it on and go. Plus, how adorable is this little purse sized bullet?

2. Hope Girl Milky Balm Lipstick in RD 101 Chicago Red

Hope Girl is a Korean brand and is pretty hard to mistake with it's signature leopard print packaging. I received this lipstick in a Memebox last year and it has been a go to red ever since. The thing that I absolutely love about this is the comfort and creaminess of it. This lipstick glides on smooth and absolutely full colour without having to work with it. The formula has a little bit of shine to it, though I wouldn't call it glossy, and gives the lips a really full appearance. On top of that, it actually has really good wear time for a créme formula lipgloss and wears down evenly without drying the lips out at all. It could be a little bit hard to track down, since Hope Girl isn't yet one of the major Korean brands, but it's worth the hunt.

3. Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipstick in 01

I can very honestly say that this is the first red lipstick I ever found that really felt like my red lipstick. I think most red lipstick wearers are well aware of the struggle to find that absolutely perfect shade of red for their skintone, that brings life to their face, makes their teeth look whiter, and just shines on them. I feel like this particular shade could do that for a lot of skin tones. It's a true, neutral red that doesn't carry too much warmth or coolness in the shade, so it should flatter everyone from the very fair to the very deep skintoned. On top of that, this lipstick is incredibly pigmented and easy to apply (though I have to apply it with a brush now that mine has been in a bit of a mishap) and wears literally all night long without needing touchups. If there was one lipstick I was going to tell absolutely everyone to buy, it would be this one.

4. Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencil in Pomegranate

Lately, I've been defaulting to Bite Beauty for all of my lip product needs, but this was actually the very first Bite product that I ever owned and I currently have two of them in my collection. This amazing blue toned red is going to particularly flatter my fellow pale girls and give absolutely everyone the whitest looking teeth ever. I would describe this shade as a classic vibrant cherry red, but it manages to stay firmly in the red family without running too pink or berry toned. These High Pigment Lip Pencils are all really creamy, easy to apply, and incredibly comfortable on the lips. I've never had any issue with wear time on these, and this particular shade does definitely leave a little bit of a bitten stain on the lips.

5. Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in 10 Rosey Nude

Of all of the lipsticks in this list, this is the one that I think will both be the most wearable and the most polarizing. This is a true matte red lip, with all of the pros and cons of a true matte formula. It's wearable because even though it's a really true, pigmented red it isn't too in your face. It's the kind of red that you can easily get away with for daytime, especially when paired with just mascara on the eyes. It's also incredibly light weight and isn't going to move or bleed once it's applied and set, giving it a lasting power that you don't have to worry about all day. The thing that I think might be polarizing is that this isn't the most comfortable lip product formula. It really sets to a matte finish, which can feel a little dry and highlight any dry patches on the lips, so you need to make sure to really prep your lips with balm before you wear it.

So there you have it, my top 5 favorite red lip products - all of which are pretty perfectly winter appropriate, if you ask me!

Thanks to Stephanie for having me and I hope you all enjoyed it!
