One Hand Washes the Other Spring 2014 Solid Scents Reviews, Photos (Part 1) -- Blackberry Buckle, Bluebell, Rose Lemonde, Silk Road

Tuesday, May 06, 2014

Hey, hey! Today I am sharing my thoughts on four of One Hand Washes the Other's Spring 2014* scents (with the next four following later this week). OHWTO graciously included samples of these in my last order to review! (Part two is here!)

Blackberry Buckle: Unf. Fans of my "The Cake is a Lie", prepare to have your worlds rocked. Blackberry preserves and fresh-picked Blackberries, Lemon zest, and Buttery crumbly Cake filling with a Spiced crumb topping.

Blackberry Buckle is potentially my favourite new scent for spring. It leans more fruity than gourmand on me, with the notes of blackberry and lemon (and a hint of cake) dominating the scent. If you love fruity, slightly sweet scents with the right amount of tart, this one is definitely for you. Just try not to eat it!

Bluebell: What else would a luminous rabbit smell of? Blueberries and Lychee fruit, Clover, Lilies, White Musk, and Zucchini Blossoms straight from the garden.

What's really interesting about Bluebell is that when I smell it, I'm distinctly brought back to my childhood when my older sister would collect fancy soaps. Instead of using them, she would keep them on display for some reason, and one smelled like Bluebell. The latter is definitely more refined and less powdery, and I can smell blueberries, lychee, musk, and floral notes. It's a nice fruity-floral scent that is light but polished.

Rose Lemonade: Another classic OHWTO smell returns to welcome Spring this year! Yep, 100% inspired by the Fentiman's beverage of the same name, this fragrance is fizzy and floral and lemony with a slight undertone of gingery warmth. Try it with gin- the soda, not the perfume ;) Fresh-squeezed Lemons, Sugar, Rose petals, Geraniums, fizzing Soda water, Grapefruit, and a light touch of Amber and Ginger.

I've never tried the beverage that Rose Lemonade takes its name from, but after smelling this, I want to! This smells like delicious, fizzy lemonade pop with rose overtones. I can detect the grapefruit, soda water, and a bit of ginger. I love how it isn't a straight up rose or lemon scent and both dominant notes work in harmony. The floral isn't powdery and the lemon and grapefruit aren't too sour; overall, a wonderful blend!

Silk Road: A heady floral-tea fragrance, heavy on the "green". Green Tea with tart Rosehips, Jasmine blossoms, and Silk, along with hints of Cucumber, Chamomile, and Kiwi.

I get a lot of jasmine from Silk Road, which is great as it's one of my favourite notes. This is very floral and green, but softened with a hint of kiwi. I see this as a very casual, lounging around the deck on a warm spring/summer's day kind of scent. I don't generally gravitate towards green fragrances, but the notes in Silk Road are blended very well and smell very "spring" to my nose.

I think each of these scents are worth checking out, depending on your fragrance preferences. All are vegan and also available in oil format. They stay pretty close to the skin on me, lasting a few hours. Longevity can be increased by wearing more layers or doubling up (solid and oil). You could also try combining scents! Mm, Blackberry Buckle and Rose Lemonade, maybe?

Solid samples aren't usually available for sale (though orders generally include a couple for free), but full-size solids are $6 USD each (.15 oz). Oils are $11 for 5ml, and you can choose any Spring scent for Snake Oil  (starting at $8.50 for 2 fl oz), sample oil vials ($3 for 1ml), and a couple scents are available in soy wax tart form. All listings can be found under the Spring section.

Solid scent ingredients: sweet almond oil, grape seed oil, candelilla wax, coconut oil, vitamin e, fragrance
