The Body Shop Absinthe Purifying Hand Butter Review, Photos

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Ah, winter. You sure love to torture us with your frigid temperatures and dry air, don't you? Sure, the calm blanket of snow looks pretty, up until it's trodden on, melted, and sullied with mud. Ain't nobody got time for that -- especially when it's the middle of March and still frigid.

What's a girl to do when her skin is cracked and drier than the Sahara? She looks to the purveyor of deliciously-scented, creamy body butters: The Body Shop -- namely, one of their newer products, Absinthe Purifying Hand Butter ($20 for 100ml).

I received this back during The Body Shop's Black Friday sale, which was spend a certain amount and receive a tote bag with a bunch of products for $25. I gave almost everything from the tote bag as Christmas gifts, but I was so curious about this cream that I had to keep it for myself (reasoning with myself that since I was giving other types of creams as gifts, it's ok to be a little selfish, right?)

The Absinthe Purifying Hand Butter is a polar vortex saviour. It has a thick consistency but soaks into skin quickly, and only a small amount of product is needed -- I find using too much causes pilling. I don't know what absinthe is actually supposed to smell like, but the hand butter's scent is herbal-y -- the official notes are "bergamot, petit grain and neroli" and overall, refreshing. The "purifying" aspect is supposed to leave hands feeling fresh, and I'd say it does.

Thank you to a friend for helping white balance this photo. I was about to murder it. #firstworldbloggerprobs

For me, the hand butter leaves my skin soft for about a day, depending on how often I wash my hands and how cold the weather's been -- it's been varying degrees below zero here lately, so it may last longer if you're having nice spring-y weather (which makes me jealous). $20 does seem like a lot, but The Body Shop often has sales -- it's listed for $10 right now on the website.

The Absinthe Purifying Hand Butter is a great match for my hands that are so tired of winter weather. If absinthe isn't your jive, hand butters are also available in Almond, Hemp, and Wild Rose.

Product was part of a gift with purchase, purchased myself. All opinions are my own.

  1. I got this during the black Friday sale as well! It's been around 30 degrees here lately and my hands have been so dry I put on cuticle oil first and rub it in, and than slather on the absinthe hand cream. My boyfriend even likes the fresh scent so I van get him to use it too - and a little goes a long way :)
