Revlon by Marchesa Manicure Essentials Review, Photos

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

I love Revlon, and I love the designs I've seen from Marchesa. I also love when designer brands team up with drugstore brands for collections. I was stoked when Revlon announced their next collection with Marchesa!

I picked up this Manicure Essentials set, of which there are a few more designs. The sets are $10ish CAD at Walmart, and I used a $2 off tearpad coupon I believe I found in the Shoppers Drug Mart Revlon by Marchesa display.

The set (l-r in above image) comes with a carrying case, file, dual-ended cuticle trimmer, buffer, and clippers.

Here are my thoughts on each:

Carrying case: Beautiful and useful! My only problem; however, was that upon opening the package, it stank. It reminds me of the smell of those inflatable pool toys. I wonder if this is the same smell ipsy subscribers sometimes have to deal with with their bags? The smell has dissipated a lot in  the week and a half I've had this, but  I can still faintly smell it. (It would probably dissipate faster if I had a window open, but that's a no-go in this weather.)

File: Revlon calls this their "Compact Emeryl File." It's a pretty typical file; pretty design, though only one side is emery and the grit isn't very strong.

Dual-ended cuticle trimmer: Be careful with the trimmer side (the silver grooved end) -- ask me why. :( I thought I was just taking off the excess skin, but nope, ended up cutting one of my fingers instead. The buffer side is great and I think I'll stick to it instead of the trimmer from now on.

Buffer: Revlon claims this is "gentle enough to use every day," though this is only the second buffer I've used (the other one also by Revlon), so I'm not expert enough to say if this is gentle or not. It does its job though!

Nail clippers: Simple and effective. I've had cheap clippers before that wouldn't cut all the way through the nail, but these work well. No complaints.

Overall, despite the issues of stinkiness and bleeding cuticles (...stay with me here), I think this is a great and useful set. Get it on sale and with the coupon if you can! There are some other items in this collection -- you can check them out here. I want that brush set!

The Revlon by Marchesa goodies can be found at Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, and probably other drugstores as well. Will you pick up anything or have you already?

Item purchased myself with a gift card. All opinions are my own.

  1. It is such a pretty set, isn't it? I haven't seen it anywhere yet, but dear me do I want to. I have a feeling I'll be picking it up... Bummer about the cuticle trimmer being a torture treatment.
