The Shopping Channel 2013 Beauty Bag Review, Photos

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

Woohoo, it's that time of year again! The Shopping Channel's Summer Beauty Bag time! For $29.99 CAD, plus s&h of $8.98 and tax, you get all of the above goodies, as well as a pretty pink tote. It's still available for sale at the time of this post!

I had a $25 credit from Rogers from a previous promotion, so my total ended up being $15.93.  I ordered on July 2nd, it shipped the next day via Canada Post Expedited and I received it yesterday (July 8). Most of these brands I haven't tried before, and TSC says the contents are worth $162.94, so let's see!

The Beauty Bag came in this big box, in a plastic bag with the contents inside the bag in a zip-top pouch.

The goodies all inside the zip-top bag. It also came with a pamphlet with full-size product prices and a  coupon to purchase any full-size item in the bag for 20% off.

The bag came with seven full-sized items, from left to right:

Nick Chavez Angel Wings Super-Light Hair Spray (284g), $17

I've heard good things about Nick Chavez's products so I look forward to trying this hairspray!

Serious Skincare Light Fraxion (51g), $39.95

Hmm. The Cosmetic Cop's review of this product gives it a "poor" rating for its misleading claims, as well as how the bergamot oil in it can cause brown spots when unprotected skin is exposed to sunlight. It does have antioxidants though, so I'll probably still use this -- though probably only at night.

Elizabeth Grant Collagen Re-Inforce Platinum 24HR Firming Eye Crème (30ml), $49.99

I don't think I've seen such a large jar of eye cream before, though I hardly use it so I could be wrong!

Ojon Dual-Ended Restorative Lash Treatment & Mascara (5ml x 2), $22

This is a neat mascara -- one end is a lash treatment (which actually looked like a primer when I opened the tube); the other is regular mascara. I'm excited to try it out! Also, what is kind of odd is that the beauty bag page and pamphlet both say the mascara is $22, but the site listing says $33. I'll list the price here as $22 for now though.

Dalton Cosmetics Tilting Mascara (7ml), $22

Another mascara! This one has a tilting mechanism, and isn't the tube pretty?

Boscia Lavender Blotting Linens (100 sheets), $12

Can you believe I've hardly -- if ever -- used blotting paper? These smell nice and are great for the purse for summer!

Total: $162.94

Here are the deluxe samples, which are all very good sizes! From left to right:

Marc Anthony Pro Finish Ultimate Hold Hair Spray

Full size: $10 (300ml)
Sample size: $1.47 (44ml)

I'm not sure why another hair spray was included, but this size is good for travel.

Go Smile Luxury Toothpaste AM / PM

Full size: $32 (3.5oz x 2)
Sample size: $9.14 (1.0oz x 2)

I really hope I don't enjoy these toothpastes too much. I can't justify spending $32 on two tubes! The sample sizes are a nice little indulgence, though!

JONATHAN|product Green Rootine Pure Paste

Full size: $24 (3.35oz)
Sample size: $10?

There's no information on the website about this brand or product, but this is hairstyling paste and is 100% vegan.

Perricone MD High Potency Amine Face Lift

Full size: $110 (59ml/2fl. oz)
Sample size: $55 (30ml/1fl. oz)

I'm going to assume this is the same as the "face treatment" in the link, as the listing refers to it as "Face Lift." What a great sample size!

It Cosmetics Hello Lashes 5-in-1 Volumizing Mascara

Full size: $24 (0.33fl oz)
Sample size: ~$12 (0.16fl oz)

Yet another mascara! I've been wanting to try It Cosmetics though so I'll gladly hold on to it. This one has a neat grip cap that resembles what you see on some pens (picture below).

Monika Schnarre iampure Protect + Hydrate Day Cream

Full size: $37.95 (60ml)
Sample size: $15.81 (25ml)

I'm always happy to receive face moisturizers, especially when they deluxe sample sizes instead of foil packets.

Total: $103.42

There were also a few smaller samples. From left to right:

Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper

Full size: $46 (1L)
Sample size: $1.38 (30ml)

This is probably the only sample I'll be passing along as I don't have curly hair!

Violet Oasis Therapeutic Body Butter

Full size: $35 (8oz)
Sample size: $1.09 (.25oz)

This is supposed to have notes of orange blossom, vanilla, and sweet fennel. Yum!

Juice Beauty Green Apple Cleansing Gel
Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Serum
Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer

Full size: cleanser -- $28 (120ml), serum -- $56 (30ml), moisturizer -- $48 (59ml)
Sample size: cleanser -- $0.47 (2ml), serum -- $3.73 (2ml), moisturizer $1.63 (2ml)

I always see people receiving Juice Beauty in sample boxes, so I'm happy to have these three small samples.

Total: $8.30

Here are the boxed items in the above photos out of their boxes. Love that the eye cream comes with a spatula! And doesn't the It Cosmetics mascara look like a pen??

The bag that everything came in is quite nice. I've been needing a bag for summer so this is perfect!

It has an interior pocket, which I'm happy for (phone/cards/lip balm/gloss storage!) and the only identifier of it being from The Shopping Channel is the small tag on the inside.

GRAND TOTAL: $274.66

That's pretty amazing for the price! I've seen complaints that this bag doesn't have as much variety as previous years' -- and while I do wish a colour cosmetic had been included, I'm still pretty happy with it. I'll use everything at some point, aside from the Curl Keeper. I had a good experience ordering and receiving, and I recommend the Beauty Bag to anyone who wants a good value and is looking for skincare and mascara in particular.

Have you ordered The Shopping Channel's 2013 Beauty Bag? Have you ordered any in the past? Let me know!

  3. Ill take that blotting paper off your hands ;) haha.
The mascaras really interest me too. I would totally have gotten this if I had a rogers credit.. but its too bad they never give it to my family :( we have been long time customers lol.

The Rogers credit seemed to be a lottery.. my parents didn't get it either :/ I think it should be for all longtime customers!

    1. Yeah, I think I am set for a while with skincare and mascara now! I don't mind too much as I stopped subscribing to beauty boxes so my stash is a bit more under control!
