Blog Every Day in May: Days 1, 2, 3 -- Story of my Life, Something That I'm Good At, Uncomfortable

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Woohoo! I'm late to the party, as usual. You may have seen this challenge floating around blogs, and I thought it looked fun!

Since it's already the seventh of May (how did that happen?), I'm going to do multiple prompts per post until I'm caught up. Here goes!

DAY ONE: The story of your life in 250 words or less (or one paragraph... no one will be counting your words... probably)

I always find these things hard to write. I had a fairly normal childhood, with some hard times due to health issues. I developed a love of reading and learning about mythology and the great mysteries of the world, which has been a fascination I have to this day. I also developed a love of animals, particularly cats. My teen years weren't the greatest due to struggling with depression, but I also gained interest in makeup and more in writing. My makeup obsession didn't fully blossom until a couple of years ago, but for many years I've wanted to write something -- so this blog combines these two interests. :)

DAY TWO: Educate us on something you know alot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)

I am really, really good at procrastinating. Ha! I am also really good at watching kitten cams! My favourites are A Second Chance Rescue and AP Live Too Cute. It's great relaxation! You too can become addicted with these simple steps:

  1. Grab a snack or a drink, and cozy up on your chair/couch/other sitting apparatus.
  2. Go to your favourite cam. You may want to sign up for a Ustream account (if the cam is hosted by them) so you can chat with other kitty-addicts. You can do so here
  3. Watch kittens do kitten things. They might be sleeping, but if you're lucky, they will be bouncing everywhere.
  4. Lose track of time.
  5. ???
  6. Profit!

Sometimes they're sleepy AND playful. (A Second Chance Rescue kitten cam)

DAY 3: Things that make you uncomfortable

I think the biggest one is small talk. I can't do it. I always feel that I sound really stupid or boring because I never know what to say. I think it's a remnant of my childhood shyness -- I'm much more sociable and outgoing when I get to spend more time with someone.

I also get really nervous calling people I don't know or don't know very well. I much, much prefer communicating via email, text, or even in person. If I absolutely have to make a call, I'll put it off as much as I can and spend hours psyching myself up to actually do it.

    1. Haha, I love "stalking" people too. I just find it nice to know about others! ;)

Yesss, join uuuuus! It's even worse when you join the chat because everyone is so friendly you'll end up there for hours, even if the kittens are just sleeping!

  3. If there were pug cams - my life would be ruined.
Don't even link me to them, because I'd never EVER want to do anything apart from watching pugs all day long!

lol I used to be like that with phone calls too. I'd go as far as 5 rings if no answer, I'd at least pat myself on the back for trying :P lol I'm a little better at the phone, I just need to work on my assertiveness over the phone.

    1. I was going to google a pug cam for you, but I don't want to ruin your productivity hahaha

I'm good if I set a deadline like, "I have to make this phone call by [x] time and then I can do [better thing]." I also have to work on the assertiveness part too though.

  4. Good that you're taking up this challenge - I don't think I would be able to blog everyday but it's fun that there are various themes - takes the guesswork out of what to write sometimes!

    1. It's a great skill. ;)

I wish small talk wasn't such an expected social thing, because it seems many people dislike it!
