Topbox December 2012 Review, Photos

This post is very, very late, I know. I'm just not very enthusiastic about this box, and every photo I tried to take came out badly. I'm just going to call this box cursed and carry on. This will be a shorter review than my usual Topbox posts.

What I received:

Chloé Eau de Parfum

"Chloé's signature scent captures the creative, confident individuality of the Chloé woman."

Full size: $90 (50mL), $115 (75mL)
Sample size: $9 (5mL -- using first value)

A decent sample size, though I'm tired of receiving perfume samples. We received a sample of the Chloé perfumed lotion a few months ago, which I gave to my sister. I'll probably give this to her as well. Thankfully, Topbox has mentioned on their Facebook page that there won't be as many perfume samples in 2013.

Ferro Cosmetics Blush X3 in Miss Priss

"A brand founded by Celebrity Makeup Artist Krissy Ferro, that makes 100% natural mineral makeup. Cruelty-free."

Full size: $20 (4g)
Sample size: There was no sample size listed, so I'm just going to estimate it's worth about $5.

A fairly nice mineral blush, but so overpriced for the full size! Seriously, you can get mineral blush for $5-$10 from indie sellers, and it will be just as good, if not better than this. Not to mention this sample exploded as I opened it, as there was no seal or sifter. Oh, and they also advertise themselves as an EWG/Skindeep "Champion Brand" -- the EWG is NOT an accurate resource I'll step off my soapbox now.

 Goldwell Jelly Boost

"Easy-to-use spray gel for creating instant body and texture for short or long hair styles."

Full size: $18.95 (150mL)
Sample size: $3.79 (30mL)

I am actually interested in this sample! My hair is long and thin, so I love trying out volumizing sprays. A spray gel is quite interesting and I've heard from other bloggers that this product is quite good.

Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser

"Polishes away dullness while it improves skin texture and tone without drying."

Full size: $35 (200mL)
Sample size: $5.25 (30mL)

I'm also interested in this. Despite the fact that I've fallen in love with OHWTO's Black Magic scrub, I still look forward to trying this out. I've heard lots of good things about Murad so I'm glad Topbox got the chance to sample them.

Total box value: $23.04

A lot of people were underwhelmed or upset with this box. I didn't find anything particular exciting about it, but I'm going to stay on with Topbox for the meantime. This month is the first Privé Box (a box with samples from one brand), being shipped to all subscribers. We don't know what the brand being featured is, but Topbox has said it's "iconic" and hasn't been featured previously, nor will it be a drugstore brand. Curious!

How did you feel about December's box?

  1. looks... ok... but at least they're not outdated and discontinued drugstore products like glossybox! :)

    1. Hahahaa! I was thinking that exactly! Anything looks good in comparison to Glossy's screwups!

  3. Did you see in today's Topbox email that the who receives the Prive Box is chosen at random?? They had us thinking that all of us would receive it, but I guess that wasn't the case!

    1. Yeah, it was a total bait-and-switch. While it doesn't upset me too much, they really did make it out like all of us would get one! At least this month everyone gets one and I hear it's good...

    2. I just read they'll refund the February box if people want to cancel now. I can't stay mad at them if they're willing to do that. I mean, they should have made it clear from the get-go that the Prive boxes wouldn't be sent to everyone, but at least they're willing to refund people.

    3. That's true. Their customer service has always been better than most of the other beauty boxes.

  4. I'd like to try out that Murad exfoliating cleanser too.
