One Hand Washes the Other Black Magic Cream Cleanser Review, Photos
Black Magic by One Hand Washes the Other is my Holy Grail face cleanser. It's inexpensive and super effective at cleansing and combating acne. It's the Mewtwo of cleansers (that's probably not the strongest Pokemon anymore, but roll with me here). I started using it over a year ago, and I have no desire to switch it up!
Black Magic originally came in soap bar form, and still does, but I like using the cream form. As far as I know, there isn't any difference in effectiveness between the two, so it's a matter of preference. The cream also comes in tubes, but I recommend the jars instead as the tubes are rather thick and hard to squeeze. I believe OHWTO is phasing these out. If you don't like sticking your fingers in jars, don't worry because a mini spatula is included!
The consistency of Black Magic is neither thick nor thin, and it's more of a grey shade than black. It has a scent of black licorice which I kind of like; it isn't overwhelming, but if you don't like the idea of it, there's a "non-smelly" version of the bar soap.
There are many beneficial ingredients in this, like tea tree oil, French green clay, activated charcoal, Vitamin E, etc. There's a write-up on some of the ingredients' benefits, but OHWTO encourages everyone to research ingredients to come to their own conclusion. I can say the formula works for me, but it's very nice to see a company recommending consumers research instead of trying to make them believe their claims!
Since I've been using this, I get far less pimples on my chin (the oiliest part of my face) and the red bumps on my nose that I'd always have are gone. It doesn't dry out my face and it should be suitable for just about every skin type.
Fans of Black Magic have figured out many different uses for it: as a spot treatment, a mask, using it on mosquito bites to take the itch away... It can also be used as a body wash (just be sure to keep it out of mucus membranes), and you can add your own scrubby bits to make a scrub (though OHWTO now sells an exfoliating scrub version, which is amazing, and I'll be reviewing it soon).
I really cannot recommend this cleanser enough. OHWTO has a longer turn-around-time (currently 18-20 business days), but it's still so worth it. If you're looking for an inexpensive cleanser that will visibly improve your skin, I think you should give this one a shot. You can buy a sample soap bar (.5oz) for only $1.50 if you want to give it a whirl without committing to a full bar/jar/tube.
Price: $6.75 2oz jar or tube, $12 4oz jar or tube; $1.50-$5.95 for soap bar (sample .5oz to 5oz). All prices USD.
