Topbox November 2012 Review, Photos

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Hey everybody! Time again for another Topbox unboxing! This is the first month with the price increase -- the boxes are now $12 a month as opposed to $10. Honestly, after Glossybox Canada announced an increase from $15 to $21 a month, $2 seems a tiny sum. Read on to see if I feel Topbox has kept the bar high with the change...

I got box 19 according to my tracking number. I'm not really sure how the numbers are given, but I think boxes 19-21 had the same contents. It may have to do with region, but anyhow, here's what I got!

China Glaze "I Herd That"
A selection from the On Safari Collection

"These unique lacquers contain China Clay as a nail hardener, the same material that gives porcelain its shiny finish."

Full size: $10-12 (14mL)
Sample size: FULL SIZE

I'm so happy I got this shade! I wasn't that interested in the "On Safari" collection but this and "I'm Not Lion" were the two shades I would have bought. Last month's survey had asked if we liked dark and stormy, camouflage, or sparkly shades for the season. I love glitter/sparkles, so this shade definitely delivers. Expect a NOTD featuring it soon!

 Cuccio Naturalé Butter Blend

"10x the moisturizing power of lotion. A non-oily intense hydrating treatment for silky smooth skin."

Full size: $18.95 (240g)
Sample size: $0.73 (9.24g)

Sorry for the awkward photo! This is a rather small sample for a body lotion, but I'll throw it in my purse to use as a hand cream. It has a nice scent, but the consistency is rather thin for what I would consider a "butter" ... It does sink into skin fast though, so I'll keep using it until it's finished. Topbox will be selling this on their shop soon.

"An award-winning, waterproof, smudge-proof, and fade-proof eyeliner that doubles as a vibrant eye shadow."

Full size: $20 (0.04oz)
Sample size: $12.50 (0.025oz)

Yay, MUFE sample! This is shade 0L, a matte black. I've never actually tried any of MUFE's cosmetics so I will definitely make good use of this. I'd definitely love to see more by them in future boxes!

Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum

"Roberto Cavalli eau de parfum embodies glamour, femininity, and sexiness."

Full size: $80 (50mL), $105 (75mL)
Sample size: $8 (5mL)

What a cute bottle! I love when companies actually put effort into their sample packaging by making it a miniature version of the full-size item. I'm not really sure if the scent is "me" -- it's nice, but I might pass this on to someone else. Still a nice sample, though.

Total box value: $33.23

I enjoyed this month's box. The value still exceeds the membership price, and the samples are diverse while still being useable. It was nice to see a full-sized item this month (though it can't always be expected as this is, after all, a sample program), and I'm looking forward to what next month will bring.

You can check out this month's stats as well as stats of previous month's boxes here.

Subscription purchased myself. All opinions are my own.

  1. great review! :) the more i use the "butter", the more i love it!! i actually considered dumping out the fragrance and putting something else in the pretty little bottle haha.

    1. Thanks!

I think the Butter will be nice to have in my purse to use in the winter.
Haha, I do love the bottle more than the scent too!

  2. That China Glaze polish looks gorgeous for the holidays! I've used the MUFE eyeliner and it's great :)

    1. It really does! I'm glad to hear that about the liner!

  3. I got the same box (well would have if the nail polish had been in the box) and was number 20.

I think I'm over the TopBox. I waited nearly six months for my first one and have five and am yet to go "YES!!".

    1. Ugh, I hope you let them know they forgot the polish! They're usually good about sending replacements.

I can understand that. I hope December's box is extra-awesome for the holidays. There's a lot of subs now but I'm going to stick with them because they've had the best value and customer service in my experience. But I do hope they keep sending larger samples, especially things that can be used by most people.

  4. I got the same box! Aside from the perfume sample it was a great box! I don't mind perfume samples, it's just that I have my own perfume, as well as other samples, to get through!

    1. Agreed about the perfume samples! They make nice add-ons to gifts though!
