The awesome Bekka of Glostix tagged me for the lobster Liebster Award!

Rules:

1) Post 11 facts about yourself.
2) Answer the questions the tagger has set for You.
3) Create 11 questions for the people You’ve tagged to answer.
4) Tag 11 people.

11 Facts:

1. I'm 23 years old, but I look younger than my age. People often comment on how young I look, and no, I don't like it! I know I'll appreciate it if I still look young when I'm middle-aged, but I find it very awkward at my current age. I'd rather look like I'm in my twenties at forty than like a teenager at 23.

2. I've been married for two years as of August 21st. I met my husband on August 8th, 2008 -- 08/08/08, which is why I go by "Eight" on this blog. ;) My husband is also eight years older than me, and yes, we do make a lot of cradle-robbing jokes.

3. I live in the smallest province in Canada. There are no Sephoras, MACs, Bath and Body Works, etc. here. It's one of the reasons why I love indie beauty so much -- most are online-exclusive, sales are usually open worldwide, shipping and handling prices are nearly always reasonable, oh and there isn't that awful price increase for Canadians! While I do use and enjoy many commercial beauty products, indie will always have my heart.

4.  I love history, especially of the ancient era. I discovered Roman/Greek mythology at a young age, and my fascination grew from there, along with learning about the pyramids of ancient Egypt. I was like a kid in a candy store in the Egyptian/Roman/Greek/etc. sections of the Royal Ontario Museum during my visit to Toronto. I could spend the whole day there.

5. I also love space and learning about it. I was never strong in the sciences when I was in school, but I wish I had been because my understanding of space junk is rudimentary at best. I just love thinking about it, like, out all of those other galaxies, are there any with intelligent life? Even to find extraterrestrial microbes would be amazing.

6. I didn't know the difference between foundation and concealer until two years ago. Seriously.

7. I have synaethesia, which sounds very special snowflake, I know. But it's true! I associate words, letters, and numbers with colours -- I don't see the the colours on the paper or screen, but in my head. It's
subtle, and I first realized it when I was seven and would associate numbers with colours during math. I didn't know it was an actual thing until many years later, however.

8. I've had four surgeries during my life. Three were dental-related (wisdom teeth extracted, two jaw surgeries) and the first one was  when I was three to try to fix the problem of my recurring urinary tract infections. Didn't work, and I actually ended up having to have a blood transfusion.... So to this day, I have to take an antibiotic daily to prevent UTIs. The longest I've gone without antibiotics is six weeks. It sucks, but I'm grateful my 'problem' isn't life-threatening, at least. I do hope someday to find a solution.

9. I'm afraid of fish, vomiting, and the North and South pole (because they are the top/bottom of the world and .. it's creepy?)

10. I like turtles.

11. I don't know! I can't think of anything interesting. Anyone who wants to know anything else can feel free to ask. :)

11 Questions:

What did you want to be when you grew up (did you do it)?

An archaeologist, and no. But I'm still interested in it.

In what format did you purchase your first album (vinyl, cassette, etc)?

Cassette, and it was Spice World by Spice Girls!

Of all the things you cook, what is your “signature dish”?

Errrr... I'm not much of a cook. I like making pasta and mixing plain tomato sauce with spices, and sprinkling the whole thing in Parmesan cheese.

What is an odd scent that brings back good memories?

Not really odd, but lavender reminds me of being a kid and teen and living with my parents.

When was your first encounter with makeup?

My sister is older than me and sometimes she'd tell me how to use it, or I'd play with some of her older pieces. Think pink lipstick smeared all over my lips and chin. ;)

What is the most terrible thing you have ever consumed?

I ate/tried a lot of gross, non-food things as a kid. For real food though, uh... shrimp. I know lots of people eat it and love it, but I really don't like seafood (see fish fear above). The idea of consuming an entire animal in one bite is weird to me. I don't care if other people eat it, of course. Just not for me.

What do you do to cheer yourself up?

I listen to music, message a friend, cuddle with my husband, sleep, read...

What motivated you to start blogging?

I've enjoyed writing ever since learning how, and as a teen I always wanted to start my own zine/webzine. A blog seemed like a good idea. I've loved makeup since high school, but didn't know a whole lot about proper application techniques, different tools, types of makeup, etc. I started reading beauty blogs a couple years ago and discovered indie, and decided I'd start my own blog too.

What was your proudest moment?

Moving out and getting married.

If other planets could support life, would you move?

I'd visit, but I don't know if I'd move. I love Earth, and I truly hope we reverse the damage already caused by pollution/global warming, or at least stall the process. As much as I love reading dystopic fiction, I hope it never happens.

If you were born the opposite sex, how different would you be?

Wow, hmm. Probably not too different except for having different genitalia.

What is your favourite book, and why?

This question always draws a blank from me. I love a lot of books, but I don't really have an all-time favourite. Some I like a lot are: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Age of Innocence by Agnes Wharton, The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I also like non-fiction about history, medical stuff, and space junk.

I can't come up with eleven new questions. :P You can all have Bekka's list because it's good!

  3. The minute that I read you love makeup and cats, I knew I had to follow! I think I have more pictures of my cats than of human beings on my phone!

I also related to your surgical procedure with recurring UTIs...for a whole year I kept getting them and although my "surgery" was just a cystoscopy, I was in pain almost all the time and the antibiotics made me feel sick constantly. I ended up having to also take an antibiotic every day for about 4 years as a preventative measure. I can't believe you had to have a blood transfusion...

    1. Thanks for the follow! I'm in the same boat with pictures of cats on my phone. ;)

Ugh, UTIs suck. I'm thinking I should seek out a specialist out-of-province and see if there's anything else that can be done. I hope you're doing better!
